New Foundry: Bomparte’s Fonts

by Bill Davis

Bomparte's Fonts logoBomparte’s Fonts is a small type foundry that launched in 2006 and features the diverse range of fonts designed by John Bomparte.

Bomparte began his career in type in the 1970’s – the glory days of typesetting – at the legendary Photo-Lettering, Inc. (PLINC). For ten years he worked closely with Ed Benguiat and also had the opportunity to be surrounded by other type design luminaries such as Robert Alonso, Victor Caruso, Vincent Pacella and Tony Stan.

Bomparte’s Fonts continues to add new, original designs along with historic revivals. You’ll find a variety of type styles, ranging from handwriting and calligraphic scripts to both retro and eclectic display fonts.

Great, however, can you maybe tell me why some fonts, are so expensive? Used to work at a location that liked the Helvetica print for all of their documents. Tried to find it for a reasonable price, and no luck. Think the least expensive I could find it for was like 65 or 70 dollars. Again just curious, realize a lot goes into designing and getting into use a font, but why so much for the end product. Thanks

    Hi Michael,

On Fonts.com you’ll find fonts at a variety of prices: from free to more expensive ones as you noted. So it all depends on the font and who designed it. We offer fonts from a wide range of type foundries and these all have different prices.

As to the Helvetica fonts, the prices start at $25.99 and go up from there based on the character set (language support), OpenType features and font formats. Click on “buying options” for each font to discover the different options available for any particular font.
